Everything You Need to Know about Cannabinol

When you look closer at cannabis from a structural point-of-view, it has over 80 cannabinoids, but no one has been interested in learning about the others apart from tetrahydrocannbinol (THC). Of course, all this has changed after research on cannabidiol (CBD) since now the medical community is far more interested in all these cannabinoids.

Speaking of the source of cannabinol (CBN) among other types of cannabinoids, all of them come from cannabigerolic acid (CBGA) in cannabis itself. That said, the plant creates cannabinoids from CBGA to 3 major cannabinoids: cannabidiol carboxylic acid (CBDA), cannabichromene carboxylic acid (CBCA) and and tetrahydrocannabinol carboxylic acid (THCA).

Now, when the plant creates THCA, it is converted into THC in the presence of light or heat. Yet, over time, THCA can also be converted to CBNA too. This is due to CBNA being exposed to air for a long time and during which they will lose molecules and oxidize. Of course, and much like other acidic cannabinoids, CBNA will convert to cannabinol as a result. This is also due to being exposed to heat or UV light.

The Benefits of Cannabinol (CBN)

First and foremost, cannabinol offers the benefits of better sleep, especially for those who struggle with insomnia. What should be obvious is that cannabinol is responsible for the sedative effect that cannabis offers too. So, cannabis that contains high CBN strains should be used at night.

Secondly, CBN is very useful as an anti-bacterial. According to an Italian study conducted in 2008, cannabinol, when applied as a topical, was very effective against MRSA. Using it as a topical has shown excellent results when treating burns and psoriasis too.

What must also be admitted is that research on cannabinol (CBN) is limited, but there have been results that suggest that it can stimulate bone growth. Not only will be this be useful in the treatment of osteoporosis but also help one recover from broken bones sooner as well.Cannabinol_3D

Why You Should Check For The Age Of The Cannabis You Use

When looking for a sleep-aid, it’s important to know whether the cannabis you are receiving will be effective. In other words, it is best to look for the perfect strain and this is where lab-testing comes in.

In some labs, they give the patient a complete cannabinoid profile of their medication. So, whatever you do, keep in mind the strains profile before you make a serious choice.

If there’s anything that you must know about cannabinol, it is a production that reflects degradation, which is why it is not always found in high concentrations either. The only time you will find high levels of CBN in cannabis is when it is stored poorly. Simply put, if it is stored in a container that is airtight, it’s not likely that THC will convert to CBN.

Now, if you can’t find cannabis with high levels of THC, then let it age a bit and that will ensure that this process of conversion begins. In other words, when it degrades to CBN, the cannabis that you do use will work perfectly for insomnia.

To summarize, cannabinol (CBN) is perfect for insomnia and should be taken seriously as a cure. Of course, its effectiveness depends on the levels of CBN in the cannabis you use.
